It is freeware that even the government permits to be installed on their computers. After downloading, install, and get the latest updates. (If it still doesn't load you may need to remove that windows component and then reinstall - kinda tricky)

2 - Get a good Anti-virus program that can find and combat the worm (I cannot make any specific recommendations, but here is a free one:

3 - If you have a backup restore image of your primary partition, use your appropriate software to restore to your last known safe backup of the primary partition.


4- Use windows installer/recovery to recover windows to it's last good known state.


5- Backup all your data files to an external hard drive and reinstall you operating system (windows)

when working in Excel go to top tool bar, click on file, drop down to 'send to' and you will be given the options to send that page as is or the file as an attachment.

How to delete duplicates E mails in outlook


Hold down the Ctrl key and select all the emails you want to delete, then click the Delete button or press the Delete key.

You can select any number of emails this way. Also, if you select one by mistake, just keep the Ctrl key pressed and click again, it will deselect the email.


If all the emails are together, you can click the first one, then SHIFT click the last and all the ones in between will be selected too.

How do I use the new Thunderbird 3 Global Search feature

Global search is enabled by default. (It can be disabled on the Advanced page in the Thunderbird Preferences.) The global search text box is located on the right side of the toolbar above the Quick Filter bar.
The search is performed in all fields in all message: subject, message body, From address, To address, etc. The search is not case-sensitive - searching for "thunderbird" will return messages that contain both "thunderbird" and "Thunderbird".
Search results will be shown in a new tab. You will be able to filter the search by various criteria.

Searching for a single term

Enter a term in the search box. As you type, a drop-down list will display possible matches for your term (such as email addresses that match the characters you have entered).

Searching for multiple terms

Enter multiple terms in the search box. Thunderbird will search for messages that contain at least one occurrence of each of the specified terms. If you enclose multiple terms within quotation marks, Thunderbird will search for the words as a phrase. That is, the search results will only contain messages that have all the words in the order they are specified in the search field. These two types of searches can be combined. For example, if you enter:
converting "imap pop"
...Thunderbird will find email that contain the term "converting" and the phrase "imap pop".

Examples

Search for the terms "new", "Thunderbird" and "pages" (without any quotation marks). Results should include messages that contain at least one occurrence of each of the terms:

You can combine these two types of searches. For example, search for "New Thunderbird" and "pages" returns messages that contain the phrase "new Thunderbird" and the word "pages":

Search results are displayed in a new tab. There is a panel on the left that categorizes the results, showing, for example, the number of messages containing the term(s) in conversations with specific people, or in messages stored in particular mail folders, etc.

Filtering search results

Use the Filters fields in the left panel to filter the messages returned by the original search. If you click an item under "Folder", "People" or "Account, you will be given the option to specify whether the message must (or must not) contain the item.
For example, say you were searching for "Thunderbird" AND "pages". You could refine the search results by selecting messages where you were a recipient (by clicking the To Me checkbox). Then you could further refine the results by selecting specific people and mail folders associated with the message (by clicking on the text in the left panel). (To remove selected people or mail folders from the filter criteria, click on the text again.)

Analyzing and filtering search results by date

A timeline is displayed above the messages included in the search results. The timeline shows the number of messages that match the search criteria, organized in chronological order.
Click on one of the bars or on the month, day or year labels to change the period of time that is displayed.
If you hover over one of the filter criterion in the left panel (without actually activating the filter), a darker area in the timeline bars shows when messages related to that criteria were sent / received.
Click the bar-graph icon in the top right corner to toggle the timeline display.

Message list

Click a message in the search results to view. It will open in a new tab, along with other messages that have the same Subject. Your original search will be left unchanged in the search tab, so you can go back and continue searching.
When the message list is displayed, you can use the Quick Filter fields to search within the list.

Software Update Failed Error Thunderbird

If you share your computer with other users, and another user's account is still logged in with Thunderbird running, this error can occur. Make sure you're the only user logged in to the computer when updating Thunderbird. The easiest way to do this is to restart your computer. Once the computer starts up again, start Thunderbird, click the Help menu, and select Check for Updates....

End all Thunderbird processes and restart Thunderbird

End any Thunderbird processes that may still be active, either manually or by restarting your computer.
Once all instances of Thunderbird have been ended or after the computer starts up again, restart Thunderbird to see if the updater is now working.

Ending Thunderbird processes on Windows

You can manually end the Thunderbird process using Windows Task Manager.
  1. Right-click on an empty spot in the Windows task bar and select Task Manager (or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
  2. Select the Processes tab.
  3. Select the thunderbird.exe entry in the processes list, click End Process and click Yes in the "Task Manager Warning" dialog that appears.

Run Update as Administrator

If you are using Windows 7 or Vista:
  1. End the Thunderbird process in Windows Task Manager as explained above, or reboot the computer so that no Thunderbird processes are active.
  2. Open the Windows Start Menu, type thunderbird and right-click on the "Mozilla Thunderbird" entry that appears.
  3. Select Run as Administrator and Continue if the User Account Control dialog comes up.
If the issue is not resolved, end Thunderbird again, as explained above, but this time, open the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird folder, right-click on the thunderbird or thunderbird.exe file icon and select Run as Administrator.

Verify your SMTP outgoing email settings

    • Tools|Account Settings... and then select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the bottom of the list on the left side of the panel. Check that the settings are the same as documented on the mail settings article for your mail provider on support.mozillamessaging.com (Gmail, Yahoo, Comcast, Hotmail, Sympatico) OR
    • If no there is no support.mozillamessaging.com article with your specific mail provider's mail settings then look for an SMTP mail settings article on the mail provider's site. This is usually in the support section of their website; searching for "mail settings" or "SMTP" will usually find it. Check that your Thunderbird settings match the documented settings.

Verify the correct SMTP Server is being used

    • Tools|Account Settings... Verify that you are using the right SMTP server for the email address. Most of the time you cannot send messages from one account provider using another account provider's service. For example, you cannot send a mail from "joe@gmail.com" through Yahoo's SMTP server.

Verify that your outgoing email is not being blocked

Verify that your outgoing email is not being blocked by your firewall, anti-virus software or your Internet Service Provider:
    • Try briefly turning both anti-virus and firewall off, sending a test email and turning them on and sending another test email.
    • Many ISPs block outgoing email on port 25. You may have to switch to another port (e.g. 587 or 465). Contact your ISP's support to see if they are blocking your outgoing email port.

Delete SMTP Password

Try deleting your SMTP password.

Reset SMTP Password

Try changing your SMTP password. This is usually done via a 'reset email password' form on your ISP's support website.

FAQ Changing IMAP to POP

This tutorial will show you how to configure a new account for POP access (rather than IMAP).

1. Select Tools | Account Settings... | Account Actions | Add Mail Account .
2. Enter your username (check with your mail provider; it is your full email address) and password and click Continue.
3. Thunderbird will attempt to configure your accounts settings automatically using IMAP. Click Stop.
4. Enter your account details as follows:
  • Username: Enter your full email address (or whatever your email provider recommends, usually your full email address, although sometimes just the part before the "@").
  • Incoming: Enter your incoming email provider's server (usually "mail.yourmailprovider.com" or "pop.yourmailprovider.com", for example "mail.argontech.net").
  • Outgoing: Enter your outgoing mail provider's server (usually "mail.domainname.com" or "smtp.domainname.com").
  • Select "POP" from the drop-down list to the right of the incoming mail server name (the row labelled "Incoming:" in the screenshot). This is important because if IMAP is selected you won't be able to change it to POP later!
  • Incoming port number: This depends on the email provider.
  • Outgoing port number: This depends on the email provider.
  • Incoming security: This depends on the email provider.
  • Outgoing security: This depends on the email provider.

5. Once these settings have been entered, click Manual Setup...

.
You may get an error message that says that the SMTP account already exists. Clear the message.


6. Click on Cancel to exit the Account Settings dialog. Re-open the Account Settings page and you will see that your new account has been created. Also please check your Outgoing Server (SMTP) is correct for this account (at the bottom of the screenshot).



7. Check that your incoming and outgoing mail is working correctly.
If everything is ok (i.e. you can send and receive email and see your old emails; note that some email providers may not give you access to all of your emails or all your email folders; check with your mail provider) and you accidentally created an IMAP account, then delete the accidentally created IMAP account as follows: open Tools | Account Settings..., select the accidentally created IMAP account with the IMAP server setting, then select Account Actions|Remove Account from the drop-down list underneath the account list on the left.

Configure an Account Mozilla Thunderbird

To manually configure an account, you will need to have the following details which can be supplied by your email provider.
  • incoming mail server and port (for example, "pop.example.com" and port 110 or "imap.example.com" and port 143)
  • outgoing mail server and port (for example, "smtp.example.com")
  • security setting for the connection with the server (for example, "STARTTLS" or "SSL/TLS" and whether or not to use secure authentication)
First, open the Account Settings (Tools | Account Settings). Each email or newsgroup account that has already been configured is listed on the left side of the Account Settings dialog. These accounts correspond to the top-level folders displayed in the "All Folders" list.
Click the Account Actions button and select Add Mail Account.
Enter your email account details and press Continue. Thunderbird will try to determine your account settings based on the domain portion of your email address (that is, the portion after the "@" symbol). Press the Stop button to abort the lookup, then edit the server names, port and IMAP/POP, and then press Manual Configuration to manually set up the the account. Note that it's important that you set server names, port and IMAP/POP before clicking Manual Config. (Alternatively, you can allow the lookup to gather default account details and then manually change the settings later.)

Configure the outgoing server

Multiple email accounts can use the same outgoing SMTP server. Therefore, SMTP servers are created separately from email accounts. In the Account Settings dialog, in the left pane, select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the bottom of the list. There may be an entry in the resulting list that was created when you entered your account details. Either edit that entry or add a new entry.
As another example, a Gmail account is configured as follows:
  • Server Name: smtp.gmail.com
  • Port: 587
  • Use name and Password: checked
  • User Name: your gmail userid without "@com" extension (for example, if you email address is brian@gmail.com, then your user name is "brian"). If you are using Google Apps for Domains, use your entire address (for example, "billsmith@yourdomain.com").
  • Connection Security: STARTTLS
After saving the information about the new outgoing server, select your new email account from the list. In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) field, select the SMTP server from the drop-down list. Other items on the page were automatically created when you entered the account details - alter and extend as necessary.
Click on the Server Settings option under your new account. Make sure the entries in the following fields correspond to the settings given to you by your email provider:
After saving these changes you should be able to send and receive emails. Other aspects of account configuration are optional and self-explanatory.

    1. Click on the Windows Start button.

The Ribbon

As you can see from the screenshot above, the biggest change to the Outlook interface is the introduction of the infamous Ribbon, with four main tabs. Lets look at these tabs in a bit more details and see what they bring us;
Home - This contains many of the standard buttons you are used to seeing at the top of an outlook window, such as “New Mail”, “Reply”, “Forward” and a plethora of options relating to email rules and categorising your items.

Send / Receive – As you would expect, this tab contains……the send and receive button! :)   Along with some of the more commonly used items, such as buttons for marking items for download or triggering the download of headers only.

Folder – From here you can control your mail archiving, mark items as read, create and modify your folders and run your mail rules.

View – This is one of my most used tabs.  Here you can set different views for each of your folders.  The most notable introduction here is the “Conversation” view, which will attempt to group your mail into conversations.  This is not for everyone and certainly not for every folder (I switched it on in a folder to receive Facebook messages and it created one huge conversation as all the subjects were the same), but I like it in the right circumstance.

Contact Actions

One feature I really do like in Outlook 2010 is the new contact action popups.  If you hover over a name in the from or to fields on an email, you now get a popup giving you several actions you can perform on this person, such as adding them to your Outlook contacts, scheduling a meeting, viewing their stored contact information if they are already in your contacts, sending an instant message or even starting a telephone call.

Quick Steps

Quick Steps are a set of very useful buttons on the Home tab. They include ways of replying to a team of people or your manager, both of which are customised tasks to suit you.  There are a standard set of buttons here and you can also create custom quick steps to suit yourself. Very nice!

Quick Bar

Ok, here is something I didn’t even notice until a couple of days ago, the Quick Bar.  Until recently, every time I wanted to send and receive my email I have been switching to the Send / Receive tab and click the S & R button.  This was ok, but got a bit annoying having to switch tabs every time, as most of the time I use the Home tab for functions like “Reply” etc.  Then I noticed the Quick Bar.  This handy little addition allows for a constant set of buttons that are displayed either above of below the ribbon (your choice) and by default contains a send and receive button with more being added as you see fit.  This is a nice feature, but it is quite small, so that’s why I didn’t notice it for so long!!!

The “Office” Button

The “Office” button sits in the top left hand corner of every Office 2010 application. When clicked, this button allows access to all the features you would normally have seen under the standard menus (file, edit, tools, etc) in Outlook 2007.  You can see Microsoft have spent a long time designing this feature and it works well.  As you can see from the screen shot below, there is plenty of room for each task, much more space for explanations and it just ‘feels’ like a better way of doing things to me.

The Windows 7 Task Bar Context Menu

Ok, so you have probably seen this before, but I thought it was worth a mention anyway.  Outlook 2010 now gets it’s own context menu on the Task Bar in Windows 7, which gives a very nice shortcut to common tasks.

Verdict To Date

So far I have found the improvements made in this latest incarnation of Outlook to be very useful and have increased my productivity, which is always good, especially with an integral everyday task such as email management.
